State Tournaments get underway here next week


Babe Ruth Baseball state tournament time is here and starting next Wednesday the Dodgeville diamonds will welcome 21 teams, about 325 players and their families.
The Cal Ripken 9 Year Old State Tournament will be held at Harris Park beginning Thursday, July 14 and will run through Saturday. Teams competing will be Mount Horeb, Cross Plains, Middleton, Milton and Janesville from the Dane County League along with Green Bay, Neenah and Sturgeon Bay from other Cal Ripken districts.
Games will be played in pool play fashion with all teams competing at least three times. Both the East and West diamonds will be used at Harris with games starting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
The winner and runner up will go to the Ohio Valley Regional at St. John, Indiana starting July 21.
There will be 13 teams in the 16-18 Babe Ruth State Tournament with games played in a double elimination format at both Centennial Park and the High School Field.
Teams entered are Wisconsin Heights, Darlington, West Middleton, Cross Plains, DePere, Reedsburg, Fond du Lac 19s, Fond du Lac CVS, Ashland, Dodgeville, Eau Claire, Oshkosh (Eastern),and Green Bay. Dodgeville will be the host team and will play Fond du Lac CSV at 2 p.m. Wednesday (July 13) at Centennial Park. A win puts them in the 7 p.m. game at Centennial against Green Bay. A loss moves them to the 9:30 a.m. game Thursday at the high school field.
The tournament runs through Sunday and the winner advances to the Ohio Valley Regional July 21 at South Lexington, KY.
Cross Plains is the returning champion. They won the Ohio Valley Regional last year and played in the Babe Ruth World Series.
There will be no admission charged. There will be a concession stand in operation through out the tournaments.
