Knights turn back Rivermen

What started out looking like a blow-out turned into a classic match-up in Thursday's Night League game between the Dodgeville Knights and the Wisconsin Dells Rivermen.
After the Knights scored three runs in both the first and second innings, Rivermen pitcher Jake Van Schoyjk settled down and did not allow a run or a hit.
The Knights went on to win 6-3.
The Knights relied on three recent Dodgeville graduates to handle the pitching duties and limit the Rivermen to four hits. The Dells scored their three runs in the third on three walks, two hits and a sacrifice fly rbi.
Kevin Donnelley led the Dells with two hits, one going for a double.
Tanner Solberg led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced when Bill Hellmann's drive to left was dropped. Gary James then singled in Solberg and Hellmann scored on a single by Travis Elvert. Mark Ludwig later singled in Danny Sullivan who had singled earlier in the five hit frame.
Hellmann's double drove in Jacob Forseth who had walked and Tanner Solberg who had singled. Gary James drove in Solberg with a sacrifice fly and Sullivan's ground out scored Hellmann.
Solberg went 2x3 for the Knights. Hellmann, Gary James, Sullivan, Elvert, Brandon Weier and Ludwig had one hit each.
Greg Brennum earned the win with three innings of work. He struck out one, walked three, gave up three hits and three runs.
Brad Simmons went the next three. He fanned three, walked one and gave up two hits.
Jacob Pluemer closed it with a perfect seventh. He struck out one.
The Knights host Sauk Prairie tonight in another Western Section Night League game.
