Thanks for the Great Effort

Last week's blizzard dumped about 15 inches of snow and pretty much left everything to a stand still. While most residents were stuck homebound, county and municipal road crews worked diligently to get and keep the roads open. Because of conditions it took crews two days to open up some roads.

With that being said, snowplow drivers charged with clearing city, village, township and county roads in a brutal storm did an outstanding job in the face of considerable adversity. Many worked long hours to ensure residents could not only get out of their homes, but get around safely.

Another big thank you should go to the Iowa County Sheriff's Department and municipal police departments for going above and beyond the call of duty. They assisted stranded motorists and worked extra hours to keep people safe. Fortunately there were no major traffic accidents or injuries during the storm.

Being a snow plow driver or police officer during adverse weather is a thankless job. Not only because of the hours they work, but because they always face criticism for what the public perceives they are or aren't doing.

While 99% of the public understand after a big storm it's going to take time to clean up, the other one-percent are impatient and feel their roads should be plowed first and can't understand the delay. This storm was no different and according to officials they received numerous baseless complaints.

I'm of the belief if you can't get out of our home because of the weather, you should just stay home. It would also make things easier for the people whose job it is to clean up after the storms.

Hats off to our area snow plow drivers and law enforcement. It was a job well done.
