Along The Ad Routes

I want to compliment the City of Dodgeville and Iowa County snow removal crews for the way they handled the storm that decimated the area Tuesday with the effects felt even into Thursday. I know that plowing the snow from the street to cover the sidewalks on some side streets was a problem to some, but our sidewalk had drifts nearly five feet high, so we just did a path to the front door and people were fine with that for a couple of days - very understanding! Check out the photo that was taken out our front door heading down the street to the Corner Drug Store and across the main street. I figured it was better to have the streets cleared with the sidewalks being secondary and the snow was gone from the sidewalks and in from the curbs in front of the businesses before Friday morning.

Last week's Chronicles just made it to the post office in time to be delivered the next day. With the snow, the pressmen couldn't make it to work in Platteville on Wednesday morning until around 10 a.m. Our usual press time gets the papers delivered to us around 9 a.m., so needless to say we were behind schedule - then we were two people short at our office to stuff inserts into the paper and get it stamped with mailing labels. We finished about 5 p.m. and usually as soon as we finish I'm off delivering papers to newsstands. Last week wasn't the case because I wasn't sure of the roads, especially with it turning dark and some of the businesses had closed by that time - I couldn't see making a trip on Wednesday and then another one on Thursday.

This Saturday is the Dodgeville Home Talent bowling tournament at Dodger Bowl Lanes. If anyone wants to stop out and bowl or just watch and buy some raffle tickets or bid on some auction items, feel free to. The home talent team uses these funds to buy equipment, pay umpires, league dues, etc. - they could use the support and $$$$!

WOW!!! What a Super Bowl game Sunday. I don't usually watch games in their entirety on Sundays as I'm at the office and keep tabs on the games on the computer...but Dewey and Jane invited me over to their place (as they did for the Atlanta Falcon's game) and I took them up on it. We ate enchiladas and I had some cookies and lots of coffee. The Packers looked as if they were going to blow out the Steelers UNTIL Charles Woodson and Donald Driver got injured and were out for the game. That forced some pretty hastily adjustments to both the offense and defense - something the Packers have been accustomed to. Especially the defense on that last drive with about 2:00 remaining made some great plays to stop Ben Rothlisberger and the Steelers on first, second, third and then fourth down. I had been pretty emotional since Friday about the game and was really pumped Sunday - even more so when I stopped at Piggly Wiggly in Dodgeville and saw two people wearing Steelers garb. I flashed my Packers tie that I have been wearing every Sunday to church since pretty much the season began. I have three Packers ties that I rotate. For sure I started that rotation when the Packers needed two wins to make the play-offs and have kept it up throughout the play-offs and even wore one the entire day the Sunday before the Super Bowl! I couldn't be happier for Aaron Rodgers in being named Super Bowl MVP, though it could have gone to the entire defense!
