After the tough three point loss at Iowa-Grant the other week, the Pointers came to make a statement Thursday night as they hosted Boscobel and Darlington in double header SWAL dual meet action.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs and Redbirds, Mineral Point made that statement in the form of 71-0 and 70-9 victories. 28 varsity matches were wrestled during the evening, and only four matches were forfeited. Mineral Point fielded a complete lineup for both duals.
Boscobel was the first victim. Garrett Rose got the ball rolling with a pin. Other pins came from Nate Cody, Robby Chubb, Brenyn Schmit, Brian Steffes, Tucker Pickel, Cody Bertram, and Todd Tibbits. Josh Webber and Morgan Mewis picked up major decisions.
The Darlington match was much of the same. Pins were awarded to Webber, Chubb, Schmit, Steffes, Mewis, Jake Riley, Pickel, and Tibbits. Bertram added a major decision.
"The kids bounced back real well from the loss at Iowa-Grant," said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "They came out to prove a point. We wrestled well from top to bottom tonight."
"We have some things to continue to work on, but we also did a lot of good things tonight. We had some new kids in the lineup and they performed well. We battled in every match we wrestled in."
This was Senior Night as it was the final Mineral Point home dual meet of the season. Senior wrestlers honored were: Deven Walrack, Cody Bertram, Todd Tibbits, Garrett Rose, and Josh Webber. Cheerleaders: Jordyn Leonard and Rene Sporle. Managers: Morgan Pittz and Cassie Schmitz.
The Pointers will host the SWC/SWAL CLASH and the WIAA D3 Individual Sectional in February.
Point travels to Merrill Wednesday and Thursday for the Northern Exposure tournament.
