Along The Ad Routes

You've heard the song "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" (on Christmas Eve)? Well here's another twist to that song. This is a true story. A fellow was heading to a family's home in Dodgeville, coming from the Spring Green area, to be Santa Claus at a family get together on Christmas Eve. While en route to Dodgeville, the car struck a deer (don' know for sure if it was a reindeer or not!). It is my understanding that the county officers who came to the scene had quite the chuckle seeing a fellow in a Santa outfit at the scene!

I owe a couple of apologies from a couple of my photo captions last week. The front page photo of the little girl sleeping as Santa is holding her is Miranda Barnes (not Amanda like I wrote). I'm blaming that one on spell check or else I just picked Amanda out of the sky. i had Miranda written in my book!
Then, in a wrestling caption of the Iowa-Grant/Mineral Point wrestling match, I wrote Mineral Point's Todd Tibbits was wrestling Iowa-Grant's Cody Belken when it was actually Mineral Point's Reid Suddeth wrestling Iowa-Grant's Jordan Jenks. There's only about 45 pounds difference in the two weight classes. That was pointed out to me by an "avid" Mineral Point wrestling fan while I was on my ad route!

Christmas Day brother Pat and niece Shelly and I ate Christmas Dinner at the Great Wall Chinese Buffet in Dodgeville. There aren't too many places open on Christmas Day and this was a good choice. We almost had the place to ourselves for a good share of the three hours we stayed there. Really we didn't eat that whole time - just some good conversation and, of course, a lot of food and desserts!

Saturday, Christmas Eve, evening I had kind of a headache so I stayed in. Usually that's one of my biggest shopping days of the year - at least until the stores close around here. This year, though, I steered away from that last minute shopping. I just didn't shop at all! Well, maybe I did shop a little - at least for the kids!

Son Michael called me to say Merry Christmas while he was on his way home to Waterloo, Iowa from Mason City, Iowa. He spent the day with his grandfather and grandmother and his mother. He had to work at HyVee on Christmas night - no extra pay as he's a manager. He said he got a Nook from his wife for Christmas. I asked him if he got a "Cranny" too!

I was offered a cake doughnut from my late buddy Mike's place a few days ago. Begrudgingly I took one and literally "choked" it down. i told my benefactor that next time they should at least have some milk to go with it!
