Along The Ad Routes

Yes - "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas"! Saturday morning, when I walked outside of my house, I was surprised by the amount of snow that hit the ground overnight. The weather people- who are supposed to know - said we were supposed to get a "dusting" of snow during the night. Boy that sure was a lot of dust! We had some 2-4" - but it was pretty light to shovel. That was the plus. And it does make it look a lot more like the Christmas season!

We always enjoy getting notes from subscribers - especially those who are from afar. Here's what Dorothy Reynolds of Rolla, Missouri wrote the other day: "Just a note to tell you I'm still enjoying the Dodgeville Chronicle at 85. I grew up in the Barneveld area and in 1944 married Earl Reynolds from Hollandale. After he finished college, his work took us away from Wisconsin. However, our yearly Christmas present from his dad, John Reynolds, was a subscription to the Dodgeville Chronicle. My father-in-law and Earl are both deceased and the number of relatives and friends I knew has decreased. However, I still look forward to the Dodgeville Chronicle each Week." Merry Christmas - Dorothy!

Sunday is Christmas and remember if you don't have anywhere to go there's the annual FREE "Community Christmas Meal" at Culver's that is sponsored by Iowa County churches, businesses, civic organizations and Culver's. They also deliver meals within about a 10 mile radius of Dodgeville. I've had the meal and delivered it to others. It's pretty good and reasonably prices - a donation is always nice!

I had somebody stop in the other day and mention that they really mis my little quips about my late buddy who ran the bakery place down the street  - the one I call the "Not So Quality Bakery"! I have been reminiscing a lot lately about Mike and some of the thing he (we) used to pull - I've included brother Pat in many of them. I remember mentioning in one of my columns that a lot of people would tell me about the Christmas card they would get form him, but I had never received one. MISTAKE! From then on I would get a Christmas card, but it was the kind you wouldn't hang up by your fireplace or show your relatives. And he was the guy who said he never read my column, Funny thing though, he'd mention things I said on Thursday morning even before his paper was delivered to his home!

Oh, and since that bakery place doesn't see fit to open on Sundays, I bought some really "good stuff" from the Dodgeville cheerleaders at their bake sale at Dick's (Piggly Wiggly) last Sunday.
