Pointers romp in Hall of Fame Night match
The Pointers rattled off three straight pins, a decision, and another pin to go up 27-0 to start the evening and finished with a 72-6 victory in SWAL dual meet action.
On the night, Mineral Point registered an impressive nine pins over the Golden Eagles--Ross Siegenthaler, Cody Bertram, Todd Tibbits, Garrett Rose, Robby Chubb, Colton Kenyon, Reid Suddeth, Morgan Mewis, and Blake Chambers.
Rounding out the Pointer scoring were decisions by Tucker Pickel and Brian Steffes and two forfeits for Brenyn Schmit and Deven Walrack.
Before the match, Ted Pittz was inducted into the Al Bauman Hall of Fame.
"Fennimore had a full team, but they didn't match up very well against us," said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "Ross Siegenthaler, a freshman, started out against one of their top freshmen and we got a pin. That started us on a roll."
"One match they thought they would win was Logan Chappell, a state qualifier, against our Robby Chubb at 220, but Robby did a great job wearing him down. Brian Steffes got some revenge from last year's losses by two pins. That tells me he's improving.."
"As a team, we wrestled much better than against River Valley. Fennimore is a young team that will only get better as the season goes along."

"The Fennimore match led us right into Saturday," Schmirz said. "The two team that beat us were just better than us at this point in the season. We had some kids who did pretty well, though. "Robby beat a state qualifier from Illinois and Deven beat a good kid from Lake Geneva Badger. Cody and Todd had a good tournament. They were just beaten by kids who were better than they were that day."
"Garrett also had a good tournament and freshman Ross Siegenthaler scored a lot of points for us. Colton Kenyon went up a couple of weights and used his quickness. Brenyn, Reed and Morgan each did a good job."
"Third was where I figured we'd finish and in all, I'm happy that we showed we're improving."
The Pointers have another tough tournament Saturday at Wisconsin Dells.
"We don't have a dual this week, so we can work on the little things that need improving," Schmitz concluded.
