Shown (l-r) facing are: Aaron Ayers, Brandon Weier and Eric Rohowetz - #33 is Eric (E Dot) James), #41 is winning pitcher Kyle Nelson and #38 is Bill Hellmann.
There will be plenty of food and refreshments Sunday at Centennial Park!

The area lost two very special women last week when both Carolyn (Ryan) Olson and Helen (Blaser) McNeill passed away. Carolyn had been a friend and business associate in county offices for many of her 59 years. Helen (84) moved here from Hollandale over 60 years ago and was also a friend and business associate as she ran the "books" at Bob's Electric - one of my early advertising accounts from here at the paper. Both will be dearly missed!

I was walking out of the office to head downtown for lunch the other day when I spotted a woman sitting on the edge of the curb alongside of the Corner Drug Store. She waved for a young man who had two young girls with him that were going into the drug store. He and I both reached the woman at the same time. She had fallen and was calling to the man for help in getting up. Both of us asked her if she was OK and if she could stand and walk on her own. She said "Yes" - she had just tripped stepping down from the curb. The fellow who helped was Eric Evans, a former Dodger. He was taking his two girls to the drug store to show them one of his best "old" hangouts when he was younger. He told them they had to have something from the soda fountain. There is nothing like a malt, shake, sundae, phosphate, ice cream cone!!!

Florence Crubaugh - may late buddy's wife - was walking out of her shop (Linens & Accents) the other day and spotted a few people siting on the bench in front of the bakery that was place there in honor of her husband, Mike. She struck up a conversation with them and found out they were bikers. She told them her husband was a biker and that he had biked across the United States from coast to coast. She also said they placed that bench in front of the business he took over when his father died of a heart attack and Mike was a senior in high school and how much he loved biking and that he would be proud to have bikers sitting there and enjoying something from the bakery. One of them said they had eaten a lot of pecan rolls in their day and this one was the best ever. I sure he was just trying to be nice!!!
