Along The Ad Routes

What do you do on a warm night? You go to Centennial Park in Dodgeville and luckily find ice cream in the concession stand and a baseball game going on. Then you find a bench and sit on it, eat your ice cream and watch some of the game. That's exactly what this group of youngsters did last week when the Dodgeville Knights Home Talent team was playing Mazomanie in Night League play-off action. They didn't stay for the end of the game that the Knights won 5-3. Shown (r-l) are: Bailey Murphy, Harvey Hellen, Harrison Hellen, Garrett Busch, Aiden Murphy, Hank Hellen, Griffin Busch and Marley Busch.

A former correspondent and longtime friend of the Dodgeville Chronicle, Naomi Perrin, dropped us a note the other day. She said she had another "Senior Moment" as she forgot to watch the label on the paper so she could get an extra four weeks by renewing early. She said in her note: "Our Chronicle keeps coming through on time - every Saturday of the current week. It is so nice to read the latest news.
Our summer here (Tennessee) keeps on breaking the record heats and it just keeps on and on. I believe Wisconsin is not much better. If we were at Oshkosh this week (she and husband Dave go to the air show quite often) we would be suffering and complaining.
Dave is still manager at Hardeman County Airport in Bolivar, Tennessee and I am still working for H&R Block. Dave says we will retire when we reach 90 years of age!

Naomi and Dave didn't miss an issue as their last scheduled issue was this past week's - August 2!

Son Michael made the trip to Dodgeville Thursday afternoon enroute to the airport in Milwaukee for a two-day vacation in Tampa, Florida. He assisted me at the concession stand at Centennial Park during the Knights home talent win over Mazomanie in Night League play-off action. He cooked some hamburgers and brats and even waited on a few people. He said he would've waited on more if he knew the prices of stuff. I pointed to the sign next to the cash box that had all the prices on it! He said - Oh!

He was pretty happy to see several of his cousins that night - Shelly, Danielle and Grant; Ryan, Lauri, Sean, McKenna and Addison - whom he hadn't seen in quite awhile; some he hadn't even met. And he likes baseball pretty much even though he's a Yankees fan. I always say of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball, the Yankees are my "31st favorite"!

I was really shocked the other day when I was crossing the main street of Dodgeville. Coming from my right (south) was an Iowa licensed car and from my left (north) was a Minnesota licensed car. Both stopped for me and I didn't even walk out in front of them to force their hand. Maybe some things are starting to sink in!

Here's a note from someone who was a visitor to the area: A couple of weeks ago my husband and I came to Dodgeville to visit our daughter and her family. We spent a lot of afternoons and evenings enjoying the local pool with our 2 grandchildren. It is such a great facility and a wonderful asset to the community. We were lucky enough to be there for "Dancin' Under the Stars" and I would like to thank everyone involved for all of their hard work. It was so much fun for our grandkids, ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2, and the rest of us too. I would especially like to thank Candace. She did an exceptional job involving everyone in the nights activities and was truly a "STAR". The pool is lucky to have her as an employee. Thanks for the great time! Barb Book
