Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Members of the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce and others got a chance to tour the new Iowa County Health and Human Services building a couple of blocks off of the main street last Wednesday. Curt Kephart, County Administrator, hosted the event with the reception part held in the huge meeting room near the front entrance - see photo.

I received some good news/bad news last week from an advertising client - Dean Clinic. The bad news was they were cancelling their FREE Skin Cancer Screening ad that was running with us for two weeks. The good news was that they were completely filled up after the first week of advertising, so they couldn't take any more people! The advertising must've paid off!

This weekend you can run all over town at Dodgeville's City-Wide Garage Sales. There are a bunch listed on our website - thedodgevillechronicle.com - and a bunch in our papers. This is a great time to get out and pick up some stuff at probably the most reasonable price you will ever see! Maps are available at True Value, Corner Drug Store, Kwik Trip, Mr. T's and Piggly Wiggly.

The other day I was in Platteville and stopped at the Kwik Trip there. I was walking out from the C-Store to my car and a vehicle pulled into the lot and nearly ran right over me. If I hadn't stopped to let it pass by, it surely would've nailed me. Gee, those IOWA drivers seem to seek me out!

Boy, Easter Sunday was the kind of a day you would like every spring day to be - 60s and sunshine in the afternoon. Brother Patrick and I went to Ludden Lake to celebrate Easter with his daughters Shelly and Amy and grandchildren Danielle, Grant, Emma and Reilly. I took the kids some kind of seaworld Easter suckers that were probably as big a hit as the meal. In my "old age", though I've realized to wait to give out the treats until after the meal!

Speaking of Easter - I received a nice Easter card from good friend Kathryn McGraw. She told me she is doing pretty good, but isn't baking yet. For the past ??? years she had made me a "celebration" pie signifying the end of the Lenten season and the fact that I could eat sweets, desserts, etc. again. I have a few desserts stockpiled in my freezer, so I won't be without such things. The good news about giving up those sweets is that I lost 10 pounds!

On Sunday I ran into the Al and Tammy Balk family, people I haven't seen in several years. Their kids, who I remember being just little tykes, are all grown up now - gee how time flies! Al ran Al's Small Engine Service in the CITGO C-Store area in what was once an "opera house"!
