Look for the random act
Gone are the days when you see a kid walking to school in the rain and you stop to pick him up. Kids are taught to avoid strangers. Can't argue with that, but still hate to see a kid battle cold or rain when he doesn't have to.
Gone are the days when you walk down the street, offering a cheery hello to everyone you meet and get the same in return. Many people are not sure they should respond to someone they do not know. Probably logical, but still hard when you just like to acknowledge someone you pass.
While there seems to be a shell that has to be penetrated, there is still a need for those random acts of kindness.
Holding the door open for someone is a start.
Helping scrape a windshield in the dead of winter works too.
Helping your neighbor shovel after a snowstorm or mowing his lawn while he is ill are ways to slip in some kindness.
There are many ways that someone who wants to exhibit kindness can do so.
You just have to look harder now to find them.
Make sure you do the looking though. In the long run, you will be glad you did.
