Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Dodgeville High School had a very pretty junior prom Saturday night with TJ Bramlett being crowned king and Rachel Pope as queen. Here is a scene following the Grand March with everyone taking part in the King/Queen dance.

Oh Boy - the use of cell phones! It's unbelievable how many times people I'm having lunch with get a call on their cell phone. But, the other day I was walking along a side street in Dodgeville and came to a corner. The car that was traveling on the crossing street had the driver on a cell phone - but then two people who came up to the stop sign at that intersection and both drivers were on cell phones. It makes you wonder just how safe using the cell phone while driving really is. The person that was driving along the crossing street didn't even look to see if I (ar anyone else) was crossing the street. The first of the two at the stop sign didn't bother to look either way (right or left) as they were talking along and the second did look both ways while they were talking!

It's always nice to hear from readers. This came via email to us regarding our website, that still is not known by many people.
"Hi, My name is Alvin May, formerly from Highland. It is great to see that you now have a web-site. What few times that I needed it over the years (usually for obits.), I was frustrated not finding what I needed to know. Now to my surprise, You have a site. And a great one at that! Thank you so very much. Al May Marshfield, Wi."
I do hear good comments on our website and several people have told me it helps them find businesses/contacts/products through those that advertise on it. In most cases we link directly with either their own website or their parent company website.

I received a letter from longtime reader Happy Bettenhausen, who at age 85 still is selling cars at Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort, Illinois. He is known around here for his polka band playing at senior citizen events - Brenda Johnson, wife of Bud Johnson of Ridgeway, played with him a few years back. They send him the Chronicle as a Christmas gift and he enjoys it because he knows so many people around here. He especially likes the After 50 stories, my column and the many events we cover. He also liked the Ron Dentinger story from a few weeks back.  Living in Mantino, Il, it takes three days for the paper to arrive to him. He says he would retire, but he wants to make sure "you" young guys get your social security checks!

There's a lot of buzz going around about the Dodgeville Bluesfest coming back this summer after a one year sabbatical. That day sure does bring a lot of business to the area - bars, motels, eating places, retail businesses, etc., besides giving people some good entertainment and a fun day with their family and friends. Hopefully the event will receive the advanced support it needs to ensure it will be a success!

It's definitely spring sports season when the weather turns cold, it rains every other day and you have a to of trouble getting games/meets in on the days they are scheduled. This week is no different!

Two of my "Final 4" NCAA Men's Basketball teams made it to that spot in Kentucky and U Conn. The other two, VCU and Butler, I didn't have either going past the Sweet 16, if that far! Oh, and I had U Conn taking home the top trophy.
