How it made me feel

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

I read that on someone's facebook post this past week.

Is it true?

The other day I was indulging in one of my favorite pastimes and that was watching baseball. I had my body parked under a tree, enjoying the game and listening to the summer breeze move the leaves around. It was peaceful and I was into the ballgame, partially because I like baseball and partially because I wasn't there to coach or manage.

I was just there.

Next to me, several feet away, there were a few people in lawn chairs or sprawled on blankets who apparently were watching a son or brother play. They were into the game a little and while their team was on the short end of the score they were still glad to be there to support him.

I was enjoying watching them.

Then, a "fan" came along with a beverage in his hand and from the looks of it, this was not his first can of the day. He was complaining about the players, manager, and could find nothing right about the game. He made sure he described everything with the right amount of swear words.

Maybe he just came for the beer.

I am sure they heard what he said but quickly put it out of their minds.

I am sure they forgot about what he did as soon as they could.

But, I am sure they will never forget how he made them feel.

I know I won't.
