Thoughts.

I never took a class known as Drivers Education. I wrote my driver's test at the old city hall, got my permit and practiced driving with my parents.

I remember some advice both parents gave me and that was keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

Pretty simple, I thought.

For the 40 some years I have been driving, most of them were spent heeding that advice. For all practical purposes I still do.

I have added one more piece of advice to my driving list of things to be aware of and that is watch out for other people.

For many years the watch was for that driver who was not paying attention due to being tired, impaired or for some logical reason.

The past few years it has been because of people with cell phones, talking away or texting while driving.

Thankfully Wisconsin has joined 30 states in making texting while driving against the law.

That should help all drivers and make the roads safer. It is a good law.

Another thing....because Congress has yet to extend the unemployment benefits law, about three million people will be without them in the next year and a half.

What happened to all the promises of helping the unemployed? What happened to the promises that the economy will be helped through government interaction?

Hmm........
