Tilley, Mae Lavella
Mae Lavella Tilley, age 91, of Barneveld, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Upland Hills Health Hospital. She was born on Nov. 28, 1927, in Brigham Township, Wis., the daughter of Glenn and Pearl (Moyer) Garfoot. Mae graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1946. She married Ben Tilley on Sept. 26, 1946.
Kids were Mae's life which was shown through her lifelong dedication to providing childcare to her community. She enjoyed her morning coffee clutch with all of her girls and baking the best brownies, crub and angel food cake for her loved ones. She was known for her gardening skills which was evident as she had the biggest garden in Barneveld until building a house on their land. Mae stayed active by participating in her church, through sewing and crafting, and making snowmen. She cherished her kids and grandkids but you can bet they all knew what the wooden spoon was for. Her life was her family and that was evident in the amount of time she spent enjoying their company. Mae was also known for her love of animals and the kids had many types of pets over the years.
Mae is survived by daughters, Vicki (Robert) Weck and Michele Lyn (Donald) Lynch; son, Ted (Diane) Tilley; sisters, Dorothy Knutson and Ellen Beckwith; sister-in-law, Joyce Garfoot; grandchildren, Tedder (Harmony) Tilley, PJ Peterson and Ashley McNamer (Ryan Boyd); great-grandchildren, Cheyene Roark-Tilley (Trace Harper), Victoria Tilley, Lilli Belle McNamer and Tallulah McNamer; great-great-grandchild, Henry Harper; and grand-dog, Molly Bear. She is also survived by many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne (Shirley) Garfoot and Paul Garfoot; parents; husband, Ben Tilley; and two brothers-in-law, Jesse Beckwith and Junior Knutson.
A Funeral Service was held at BARNEVELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 505 Swiss Lane, Barneveld, at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 13, 2019, with the Rev. Jim Hearne presiding. Burial was held at Bethel Cemetery, Barneveld. Visitation was held at the church from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
