Adams, Florence E.
Florence E. Adams, age 92, of Avoca, died on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Dycora Transitional Health and Living Center in Muscoda, following a brief illness. Florence was born on May 29, 1926 in Avoca to Dora and Adolf Rakow, the third youngest of 12 children in the family. She married Nelmer Adams on September 19, 1945. They were together for over 52 years before his death in 1997.
They were blessed with three daughters, Mary (Ronald) Miller of Barneveld; Beverly (Roger) Adams-Sugden of Dodgeville and Sharon Peat of Boscobel; a son, Wayne who preceded her in death in 1987; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Shirley Rakow.
Nelmer and Florence farmed in the Big Springs area for many years and retired to Avoca in 1982. Florence loved the country life and passed that love to her grandchildren.
Many happy memories were made while they helped her in the garden, played with the peonies and spent quality time just talking with each other. These special memories were passed down to the next generation when her great grandchildren came to visit her. Florence and Nelmer loved to go to the many dances around the area.
Although she couldn't get Nelmer to dance with her, she rarely missed a chance to get on the dance floor herself. They loved to go to fairs and community events together, and she still made afghans for the Avoca Fisheree well into her 80's. Florence faced a lot of difficulties in her life, including caring for her husband for seventeen years after his stroke and the death of her son, Wayne in 1987. But through it all, she always had a smile for everyone.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Alice Dickenson; brothers, Clarence, Fred, Delbert, Norbert, Earl, Donald, Kenneth, Harold, Clifford and Richard Rakow and two infant grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the Otter Creek Lutheran Church near Highland. Pastor Ramona Orton will officiate with burial in the Otter Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville and at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. Memorials to the Otter Creek Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.
The Adams family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Dycora Transitional Health and Living Center of Muscoda for their attentiveness and compassionate care.
