Kite, Sr. David William
David William Kite, Sr. passed away on November 16, 2021 at the age of 97. He was born on April 4, 1924 in Muscoda, WI the son of Buford and Mae (Merwin) Kite. In the summer of 1942, David met Helen Straka at a dance and the two became lifelong dance partners after being wed during a blizzard on December 27, 1944.
Together they went on to have 12 children: Jim (Linda), David Jr. (2019) (Kathy), Carl, Chuck (1951), Margaret (1952), Jerry, Barb (Steve Enloe), Dan, Don, Gene (Gigi), Mary Kay (Mark Esser), and Mark (Tracy). David leaves behind 27 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
David and Helen farmed after they were first married; as their
family grew and the farming responsibilities were partially
transitioned to the older boys, David started working with Eastman Cartwright as a carpenter. His carpentry skills never diminished as he still was sought for advice regarding any construction project.
David and Helen spent many years traveling to Polka dances with some of their closest friends. Family and faith were the utmost importance to David. He was especially concerned with how to help on the farms. He spent many of his days on a tractor, running errands, or simply lending a hand to anyone in need.
David is survived by his wife, Helen, of 77 years, nine children, and an overflowing house of grandchildren waiting for homemade ice cream each Christmas Eve. David is further survived by two sisters (Neva Virnig and Betty Kotte), one half brother (Wayne Kite), and four half sisters (Carolyn Kite, Charlotte Carlberg, Maxine Krattiger, and Nancy Hach). He was preceded in death by his siblings,
Madelyn Gabrielson, Nellie Muller, Lavene Mistick, Lavetta Bryant, and Carl Kite.
He also leaves behind his best friend and brother-in-law,
Bernard Schuld, and a fellow fixer and close family friend, Larry Yonash. Those that will remember and have been touched by David/Dave/Buck/Shorty, or simply Grandpa Kite are too numerous to list. No matter the name you knew him by, he was one that was not soon forgotten.
