Legler, Paul

Paul Legler was born on June 27th, 1970, to Willis and Audrey Legler and died on September 30th, 2021. Growing up Paul was involved in the family farm learning to care for dairy cattle at an early age. Paul was also heavily involved in wrestling, FFA and he loved being around friends. Talents he gained in his youth stayed with him his whole life. He had a gift of storytelling (BS) and was a talented prankster. He was a loyal friend and son, a protective brother, and heck of a card player. On July 28th, 1990, he married Gretchen Gutzmer, from that marriage they had four children.

Paul moved all over the Midwest building and managing dairy farms with his family. He survived a lot including barn fires and extreme snowstorms, but it wouldn't stop him from doing what he loved. He lived in Wisconsin, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, and New Mexico. New Mexico was what his family would end up calling home as they lived there for years. He was especially proud of his children whether it was showing every breed of dairy heifers from Brown Swiss to Guernsey at the local county fair, to state track and baseball games, to watching cheer competitions at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium (which we all felt was a sin just being there), he was always proud. He loved spending weekends eating brats and watching the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. During the years in New Mexico Paul owned and operated Stepping Stone Dairy. He prided himself in making sure to teach all of his children as much as he could about dairy cows. They were all able to do a vet check, pull calves, raise calves and know a damn good heifer or cow when they saw one. A strong work ethic defined him and he proudly passed it on to his children.
After all of his children graduated Paul would follow his passion for cows and move to Chandler, Texas. Here he would manage a very large jersey dairy or rats as he would call them. Here in Texas, he met, fell in love with and married Carla Jenkins, with whom he also gained another daughter Emily. He was a father figure to Emily and taught her many things. He loved them both unconditionally. Paul's love for dairy cows was not only instilled in his children but all four grandchildren- Henley, Atlas, Rozyn (Rufus) and Doc (little buddy). His grands loved going to spend time with "Grandpa Legler" or "Grumps."

Paul is survived by wife, Carla; Son, Wyatt Legler of Portales, New Mexico; Daughters, Molly (Anthony) Sanford of Portales, New Mexico, Abby (Austin) Davis of Rusk, Texas, Amelia (Austin) Loving of San Marcos, Texas, and Emily (Tyler) Rogers of Kilgore, Texas. Four beautiful grandchildren, Henley and Atlas Sanford of Portales, New Mexico and Rozyn and Doc Rogers of Kilgore Texas; his mother, Audrey Legler of Dodgeville, Wisconsin; and sisters, Jo Ann (Mike) Meudt of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Fran (Greg) Fritch of Ridgeway, Wisconsin, and Heidi Lindner of Highland, Wisconsin; along with many nieces, nephews and their children.

He is preceded in death by his father Willis Legler; brother, Bob Legler; and special family friend, Bitty Crites.
