Donald Gene Gilbertson, age 83 of Brodhead, WI passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 7, 1938 in Dodgeville, WI to Leo and Vivian (Peterson) Gilbertson. Donald grew up in the Daleyville area with his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. He attended school in Barneveld and graduated from Barneveld High School. He entered the Marines ROTC program and later enlisted in the U.S. Airforce. Don was stationed in Altus, Oklahoma and spent time in England as an Inventory Specialist and when discharged had reached the rank of Private 1st class E-5. They moved to the United States in November of 1962 and lived in Altus, Oklahoma while Don was still in the Air Force. In September of 1965 they moved to the area and soon after began farming near Barneveld. In 1972 they purchased a farm outside of Blanchardville. From that marriage there were four children, Sharon, Cherie, Donald and Timothy.

Don married Mary Schindler, on November 30, 1991. From this marriage he gained 2 stepsons, Tom (Sandi) and Steve (Sue) Schindler and one stepdaughter, Andrea (Mike) Lawrence. Don was a dairy farmer and later was one of the Co-Founders of Midwestern Bio-Ag Inc. Don was a people person and his ability to listen with intent, is what made him who he was. He could take from a conversation exactly what a person had need for and act upon it. He had great compassion for everyone he met. He was grounded and calm and had a drive to go above and beyond for anyone he knew. His love for the Lord was inspiring to all who knew him and it was that love that helped him to get through the last few months. Don was a member of the Westside Baptist Church, Janesville.
