Kroll, John (Jack) William
John (Jack) William Kroll, age 87, of Dodgeville WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.
Jack was born on March 31, 1934 to Andrew Anthony Kroll and Gladys Kathryn (Pierick) Kroll in Highland, WI. His family lived in several small towns in central WI, including Dodgeville, Highland and Mineral Point. He graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1952. After graduation he served two years in the Army at Fort Bliss, TX. He then went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the UW-Madison.
With his first job at AC Delco, Jack was sent to MIT (Boston, MA) to develop innovative gyroscope technology that was installed on the Apollo lunar module. Subsequently he was offered a fellowship at MIT, but opted to return to UW-Madison to obtain his Master's degree.
He went on to work for Cutler-Hammer/Eaton Corp until his retirement. He holds several patents for his innovative electro-mechanic and gyroscope inventions.
Jack was an avid runner and was still bringing home 1st place medals into his 70s. In his younger years he was head mechanic for the '5F' race car with high school buddies. They spent an entire summer racing the car at Darlington and Lancaster. Oh the stories!
Jack is survived by his soul mate Jean Ann (Paynter) Brown of Dodgeville; children Mary Karen (Kroll) and David Bock, John Gerard Kroll, and Anne Marie (Kroll) and Dan Coppock; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Friday, July 30,2021 at the church. Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
