Cordts, Rita Elizabeth

Rita Elizabeth Cordts, age 94, of Montfort, WI passed away peacefully at Edenbrook of Platteville on Saturday, March 6, 2021. She was born on May 22, 1926 in Highland the daughter of Edward and Katherine (Wolfe) Laufenberg.

Rita attended St Anthony's Catholic School and Highland High School. She worked at Parker Pen Company in Fennimore and Jimmy's Spaghetti House in Madison. Rita was united in marriage to Ralph Cordts on November 18, 1946 at St Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort, WI. Ralph and Rita farmed until 1982 when they moved to Montfort. Rita was involved in 4-H as a Leader and Superintendent, Stitch and Chat, Dixon Busy Fingers Homemakers, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9298, Crazy Eight Card Club and an active member of St Thomas Catholic Church and the St Thomas Council of Catholic Women. Rita also enjoyed crafts, quilting, playing cards, baking and being with family and friends.

Rita is survived by her six children; Larry (Peggy) Cordts of Bloomington, IL, Shirley (Greg) Junk of Platteville, WI, Linda (Ron) Errthum of Dickeyville, WI, Wayne (Pam) Cordts of Livingston, WI, Alan (Jane) Cordts of Livingston, WI, Marcia Cordts of Platteville, WI, grandchildren; Ginnell Barke, Scott (Haley) Cordts, Amy Shelnutt (Hilton Mengesha), Jeanne Junk, Jeremy (Melanie) Junk, Lori (Michel) Dreischmeier, Lynn Shepard, Jason (Sara) Errthum, Sara (Terry) Lindecker, Travis (Lynn) Rice, Matthew Rice (Billie Jo White), Emily (Scott) McGuigan, Ryan Cordts (Nicole Trenkamp), along with twenty-three great grandchildren. Rita is also survived by her sister Coletta Munz of Dodgeville, sister-in-law Dorothy Laufenberg of Versailles, MO.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Cordts, son-in-law Ronald Pink, grandson Jeff Pink, great granddaughters Olivia Shepard and Bella Jo Rice, brothers; Ray Laufenberg, Cletus Laufenberg, John Laufenberg, Florian Laufenberg, and Hiliary Laufenberg and sisters; Mildred Buening and Grace Kitsemble, along with many sisters-in-laws and brothers in-laws.

A public funeral mass will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday March 12, 2021 at the Ss Anthony and Philip Catholic Church in Highland, WI, with a private burial for immediate family to follow in the Rock Church Cemetery, rural Livingston, WI. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00-11:00 A.M. on Friday morning at the church in Highland, WI. The wearing of masks along with social distancing will be practiced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort, WI or Ss Anthony and Philip Catholic Church in Highland, WI.
