Mayer, Phillip Brumder
Phillip Brumder Mayer, age 87, died on Saturday Jan 30th, 2021 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, WI.
Phillip was born November 22, 1933 in Milwaukee. He graduated from Milwaukee Country Day School (now University School of Milwaukee) and then Dartmouth College with a degree in English. Phil was very active in the Dartmouth Outing Club becoming chairman of the Cabin and Trails Division his senior year. He loved the outdoors and was an avid reader. After two years in the US Army Finance Corps, he worked in plastics, as purchasing agent for Western Snowplows, and in 1968 he joined Luitink Manufacturing Co., a family company founded in 1888, as vice president. Phil eventually bought controlling interest in the company and it eventually became one of the largest contract stampers of stainless steel in Wisconsin. He belonged to numerous small business organizations and was on the board of several. He retired from Luitink in 1993, wintered in upstate South Carolina, but always returned to his beloved cabin in Iowa County, WI for the summer. In 2015 he returned to reside permanently in Wisconsin at Oakwood Village near Sun Prairie.
Phillip was preceded in death by parents Rudolph H. and Evelyn (Luitink) Mayer and wife Alice (Weigell) Mayer in 1999.
He is survived by Amalie Sabatini, daughter of Phillip and Victoria (Krause) Mayer, sister Carolyn (George) Pratt, brother Rudolph E. Mayer, stepchildren Elizabeth (Rick) Chaltry, James (Lori) Read, Peter (Lisa) Read, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Burial will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee at a later date with private family gathering. Memorials may go to Faith Lutheran Church in Mineral Point.
