Bernard D. "Bernie" Gust, age 69, of Dodgeville, died on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Bloomfield HCR following a brief battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Bernie was born on December 18, 1950, the fourth son of Elmer Louis and Elaine (Stapleton) Gust. Except for a short while when he lived in Madison, he spent his entire life in Dodgeville. He attended St. Joseph's Grade School and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1969. He went to work at Oscar Mayer shortly after. He was drafted and after completing his time in the U.S. Army he returned to Oscar Mayer where he worked until retirement. He also worked locally as a bartender and a cook. He married Linda Jungbluth and together they had a son, Jason. Bernie loved to hunt, fish, play cards, gamble, and hang out with friends. We will miss him and his stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Jimmie; grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Stapleton and Gustave and Emma (Henning) Gust as well as aunts and uncles.
Bernie is survived by his son, Jason (Hollie) Gust of Barneveld; his grandson, Ryan and granddaughter, Morgan; brothers, Jerry (Connie) Gust of Janesville; Mike (Cathy) Gust of Clearwater, FL and Bob of Anchorage, AK; a sister, Joan Thompson of Madison; a special aunt, Bernadine Gust of Madison as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
In keeping with Bernie's wishes a gathering in his honor will be held at time when all his family and friends can get together safely.
Bernie's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Christy Kelley and Randy Meudt who loved and looked out for him.
