Ferris, Marilyn Phoebe (Collins)
Marilyn Phoebe (Collins) Ferris, 93 years, passed away on Saturday, November 14th, in her Naperville, IL home, surrounded by members of her family. Marilyn was born in Kenosha, WI to (Gladys) Phoebe (Shierk) and Clarence Peter (Doc) Collins. Marilyn was a nurse and longtime resident of Lombard, IL. Marilyn is survived by her 10 children; 14 grandchildren and her 3 great grandchildren., a niece, cousins, cousin-in-laws and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, brother Peter Collins, infant sister, Melissa Collins, and grandson, Benjamin Bachleda. A memorial mass will be held at St. Thomas in Naperville at a future date with burial beside her husband in Assumption Cemetery, DuPage County, IL.
Marilyn was the last of her generation of her paternal family descendants of Waldwick, and Mineral Point, Iowa County, Wisconsin's early Irish pioneer immigrant settlers of the 1850's. Her paternal great great grandfather, Peter Collins along with his three sons, James, John and Peter, made their way to WI after the boys' mother's passing in Bucks County, PA and sister having married remained out east. John being Marilyn's great grandfather married Irish Lassie, Mary Jane Gilmore, raising a large family, one being a long time High Street Merchant, Alice Agnes Collins, owner of her, THE STYLE SHOP and her nephew, a constable, local Judge, as well as a Watkins and Rawleigh products distributor and Real Estate Agent, Leo Collins.
Like many of Marilyn's Paternal and Maternal Family Tree members, Marilyn main focus in life was her large family, numerous friends and her faith. Marilyn will be sadly missed but long remembered. I loved hearing her singing those Irish family ballads, of her stories and don't forget that Mulligan's stew. Services c/o Gerharz Funeral Home, Lemont, IL.
