Gratz, Michael John
Michael John Gratz, 58 of Plain passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 10th, 2020 at his family's home in Highland. Mike was born to Wesley "Mick" and Janet (Franzen) Gratz on April 20, 1962 in Highland WI.
Mike attended Highland Schools graduating in 1980. Shortly after high school Mike began his lifelong career of driving semi. He was a milk truck driver, dump truck driver and an over the road truck driver for many companies. P&P Grain was his employer for the majority of the career. Most recently working for Richard's Corner Creek Trucking as a dispatcher.
He will fondly be remembered by his family, many friends, and fellow truck drivers that would call him for driving directions. If you would tell Mike what road you were on and the mile marker, he could tell you your exact location. Not only could he give you directions, but he could tell you where the next truck stop was and if it was worth stopping at. This was not just locally it was coast to coast.
Over the years Mike had several hobbies. He would go raccoon hunting with his dad. They would travel all over for dog shows and night hunts. A large collection of trophies prove that they were usually pretty successful. He also loved to shoot trap. Mike had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping every chance that he could.
Over the 10 last years he was handed several health challenges and met them head on. His determination and optimism is what kept him fighting. He never would let you know how bad he was feeling, instead he would be focused on doing what he could for those he loved. He was given life again 4 years ago as a double transplant patient. He was the recipient of a pancreas and kidney. The transplant allowed all of us more time with him.
Mike is survived by his longtime love and wife of 20 years Christy, their daughter Sammie Gruber. His three daughters Nicole Sommerville, Alison Cowles(Joshua) and Lindsay Gratz(Megan) with former spouse Andrea(Sommerville) Zierath, his seven grandchildren, mother-in-law Delores Gruber(Bob) his siblings Susan(Chad) Washa, Mark(Kim), Matt(Ashley), special friend Leroy Gruber (Jean), several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Wesley "Mick" and Janet Gratz. He was also preceded by his sister Mary, father-in-law Leroy 'Sam' Gruber, along with his maternal and paternal grandparents and his brothers-in-law and special friend Danny Gruber along with sisters-in-law Brenda Senowadki, Diane Gruber, and Barb Gruber.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 24th at the Spring Green Community Church. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. and a Service will be held at 3 p.m. Due the pandemic masks are required. In Lieu of flowers donations to the family, 4 Pete's Sake or Upland Hills Hospice would be appreciated.
