Smith-Turben, Beverly J.
Beverly J. (nee Kafar) Smith-Turben, age 84, of Rewey, WI passed away on Saturday morning October 3, 2020 at her residence in Rewey. She was born at home on June 27, 1936 in Cassville the daughter of George and Mabel (Hoffman) Kafar. Beverly was united in marriage to Foster Smith in 1952. Together they had nine children. Later she was united to Donald Turben in 1973.
Beverly grew up in Cassville and after her marriage to Foster; they worked together commercial fishing the Mississippi River for several years. They raised their family teaching them the tricks of the river. Beverly enjoyed a simple way of living and always took life's challenges head on. Having to assist in raising her siblings, along with her own family, she was always there for everyone's needs. She enjoyed canning, cooking and berry picking. Beverly later moved to various places working different jobs until going to Madison and working for the U.S. Postal Department. After her retirement, Beverly moved to Lone Rock until moving to Rewey four years ago. In her later years, Beverly looked forward to spending her winters in Florida and New Mexico. Beverly will be remembered for her love of laughter, spend time with family, gardening, had an immaculate yard with many flowers, and always had a passion for fishing.
Beverly is survived by her six children; Patt (Ron) Deiter of Cuba City, Kathy Beck of Madison, Debra Smith of Madison, Susan Wilkinson of Rewey, Peggy Smith of Madison, Steve Smith of Madison, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren along with one great-great grandchild, brother Richard Kafar of Belden MS, and sister Donna Paffrath of Rhinelander.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband Foster in 1970, 2nd husband Donald in 2014, three children; Sally Brownell, Michael Smith, infant daughter Pamela Smith, five siblings; Kenneth, Roger, Donald, Stanley, and Virginia Kafar, and two son-in-laws; David "Wolf" Wilkinson and Larry Beck.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday October 11, 2020 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort, with a private burial in the Cassville Cemetery in Cassville, WI. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon.
