Jones, Wendell Dean

Wendell Dean Jones, 74, of Dodgeville and formerly of Platteville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville. He was born on November 29, 1945, the son of Wendell and Mary (Bride) Jones. He graduated from Iowa-Grant High School in 1964.
Wendell, who went by Dean, grew up helping on the family farm. He then worked mostly in a factory setting during his life, including a position as a welder at John Deere for many years. Dean was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He loved to ride his Harley, play pool, laugh, and joke. He had a great sense of humor and could sometimes be described as a little mischievous. Dean was also an extremely good wrestler. In 1964, his senior year in high school, he went undefeated (24-0) at 103 lbs to become Iowa-Grant's first state champion in wrestling.
Survivors include his children, Deana (Norman), Shannon (Amanda), Justin (Gretchen), and Jamie; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Darrell; three sisters, JoAn (Ed) Blaine, Joyce (Tom) White, Jackie (Kevin) Krupke; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dale.
The family would like to thank Upland Hills Health and especially Sunnyside Assisted Living Home for their compassionate care of Dean.
Private family services will be held in Mineral Point at Gorgen Funeral Home and burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
