Gottschalk, Robert "Bob"
Robert "Bob" Gottschalk, 84, formerly of Dodgeville, passed away on February 13, 2020 at Our House Senior Living in Cambridge, WI.
Bob and his twin brother Rich were born in Washington DC on August 24, 1935 to Winifred and Louis Gottschalk. After high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy, then attended UW-Madison, where he was a member of the boxing team. He graduated with a degree in Soil Science.
In 1960 he married Mary McGowan, with whom he had 9 children. Bob is survived by 8 children; Jeanne, Bob, Tom, Dan, Sharon, Lori, Julie, Jonathan; 20 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his younger brother Gene; and his ex-wife Mary. He was preceded in death by his son Jim, his twin brother Rich, and his parents.
Bob was an adventurous soul and a lifelong seeker of knowledge and spiritual meaning. He had a quirky sense of humor and a passion for creative DIY projects, from operating his own printing press, to building a helicopter, a sailboat, and a cabin. He loved to sing, play his banjo, teach himself new languages, practice martial arts, and be physically active. Above all, Bob was an outside-the-box thinker who led an unconventional life. He was blind for the last 25 years of his life.
A celebration of life will be held this summer. Thank you to Our House Senior Living and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care.
