Dodgers fifth at
Iowa-Grant VB Invite
The Dodgeville volleyball team had a good run at the Iowa-Grant tournament Saturday and by criteria finished fifth.
"We went 2-1 in pool play which meant a three-way tie between Dodgeville, Mineral Point and Belleville. Because of the tiebreaker rules, we were seeded #3 out of that process," Dodgeville coach Nicole Hottmann said. "So we were put in the consolation bracket rather than the winners bracket. We ended up 4-1 on the day, but taking fifth place overall."
In pool play:
-Dodgeville won 2-0 over Seneca
-Dodgeville won 2-1 over Belleville
-Dodgeville lost 2-0 over Mineral Point
In the consolation bracket:
-Dodgeville won 2-0 over Albany
-Dodgeville won 2-1 over Portage
The coach provided the following breakdown of the competition:
"Anna Ruhland led us defensively with four block kills, JoJo Heimerl led us defensively with four digs; Alyssa Alfred and Lucy Heimerl led us in aces with four ace serves each."
"JoJo Heimerl led with nine offensive kills plus one block kill for a total of 10 kills. Lucy Heimerl led us with six digs and strong serve receive passing in this match. We served strong as a team with five total aces."
"Olivia Argall led our team in total kills with six. We struggled with play on our own side of the net this match so there really were not many other highlights."
"JoJo Heimerl led us with eight overall kills and Allison Esch helped us on offense with four swing kills; Lucy Heimerl helped with great passing on serve receive in this match."
"JoJo Heimerl was overall kill leader with eight total kills, as well as led us defensively with six digs. Grace Borne had 17 assists, and Anna Ruhland led us with three block kills."
