Dodgeville's high school baseball team figured out early they had nothing to fear from conference favorite Prairie du Chien and they proved it with two exciting innings of baseball. The Blackhawks got to Dodgeville starter Brandon Molldrem with a run in the second inning when Ryan McGrath doubled and scored on a single by Blake Bartels but the senior righthander said enough was enough. Molldrem hurled goose eggs at the Blackhawks until he exited via the pitch count with two outs in the sixth. and the bases loaded. The second out was a throw to the plate by shortstop Will Borne-Mumm that stopped a potential score and the final out came on one pitch from reliever Dillon Garthwaite who coaxed a flow out to center fielder Michael Mikrut on one pitch. The Dodgers then erased the Blackhawks' led with a four run sixth. Walks to Molldrem, Josh Gorgen and JJ Thompson with an sac bunt try by Borne-Mumm loaded the bases and sent in a run to tie the game. Mikrut greeted reliever Ryan McGrath with a single that made it 2-1. RJ Veinberg singled for another run and a fourth tally crossed the plate on a ground out by Ayden Halverson. Even with the 4-1 lead the Dodgers had to get the last three outs and it wasn't over yet. A walk and two singles loaded the bases and spelled Garthwaite's exit in favor of Anthony Vivian. After his warm-ups Vivian threw three straight strikes to Josh Dyer and McGrath then used five pitches to issue his third strikeout with Bryce Bedward the victim to preserve the win and earn the save. Colton Rikli and Halverson both were 2x3 for the Dodgers. JJ Thompson, Mikrut and Veinberg accounted for the rest of their seven hits. The win keeps the Dodgers unbeaten at 4-0. They travel to Darlington Saturday for the annual Wingle Strong Foundation tournament where they will face Darlington at 10 am and Pecatonica at 12:30. Monday they host Mineral Point and Tuesday they travel to River Valley.
