Barneveld boys bounced in opener

Visiting Fennimore outscored Barneveld 44-22 in the second half and coasted to a 71-49 non-conference boys basketball win Friday night.
The score was knotted at 27 at the half, but the combination of senior Reid Larson and junior Kellen Kenney produced 24 points in the second half for the Fennimore Golden Eagles, two more points than Barneveld could muster in those 18 minutes.
Reid Larson finished the night with 21 points to lead all Fennimore scorers while Kenney ended upwith 20.
Add in sophomore Adam Larson with 18 markers and the total grew.
The second half saw Fennimore holding a six to nine point lead throughout until a pair of threes by Reid Larson and Adam Larson put them up by 11 at 53-42.
Barneveld senior Dayne Evans came off the bebnch after sitting awhile with four fouls and hit a runner, a lay-in and then an NBA three pointer to get his team to within eight at 57-49, but he fouled out on the next possession and that would be the last points the Barneveld Golden Eagles would get.
The Fennimore Golden Eagles, however closed it out with a 14-0 run.
Evans finished the night with a game-high 25 points with 13 coming in the second half.
Senior Malcom Reed put in 13, going 7/8 from the line in the first half.
"We're young with good senior leaders, but have several players sill trying to figure out varsity basketball," said Barneveld coach Trent Sullivan. "We cut it to six in the second half, but then we came away empty on back to back three pointers and they hit their two threes on their end of the court."
"Their size and length hurt us. We went man to man and they took advantage of the mismatches," he added. "We didn't take advantage of opportunities and they did."
