Golden Eagles beat Warriors for third straight

By Levi Zimmerman
The Barneveld boys basketball team hit the road for South Wayne Tuesday night for a conference matchup with Black Hawk.
Riding on a two-game winning streak, the Golden Eagles made it three straight, as they won by a final score of 60-42.
Barneveld got out to a big lead early on thanks, in part, to a strong defensive effort.
Barneveld led 33-15 at the halftime intermission and sustained a double-digit lead throughout to get the victory.
Senior Ryan Gust led in scoring with 20 points for the Golden Eagles, including going seven-for-nine from the free throw line.
Junior Kasey Helgeson followed with 15 points, including drilling three, three-pointers.
Junior Trenton Owens was the third Eagle in double figures Tuesday, as he had 10 points.
Sophomore Terek Marx added five points.
Barneveld shot it well from the free throw line, making 14-of-18 attempts.
Andrew Figi led Black Hawk with 13 points.
Seth Dunleavy ended with 12 points for the Warriors.
"We kept it rolling tonight with a great win down at Black Hawk," said Barneveld head coach Tyler Sullivan. "It's never easy to play down there, and tonight was no different. We started out the game pretty slow offensively trying to find our rhythm against their zone, but our defense started right where we left off against Argyle, and we did a pretty good job containing them. We gave up a few scrappy offensive rebounds in the first half for second chance points that I would of liked to clean up, but we did a great job moving the ball, and moving off the ball in the first half to grow a comfortable lead at half."
"The second half was a little up and down for us, as we grew to a 25-point lead, but then we got careless with the ball and they started making shots to make it a game halfway through the half. We were able to weather the storm and finished strong down the stretch, so I was really happy to see that," Sullivan stated. "All in all, another great conference win for us. We just need to clean a few things up defensively to keep getting better."
Barneveld improved to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in the East with the victory Tuesday, as the Golden Eagles sit comfortably in first-place of the conference.
Barneveld will host Monticello this Friday in another conference battle.
