Late push lifts Cardinals over Bulldogs in OT thriller

Ithaca's boys basketball team was on the way to a win at Highland Thursday, until Weston Frost led a comeback that not only caught the Bulldogs but sent the game into overtime.
That was enough to help the Cardinals to a 60-55 non-conference win.
Frost led the Cardinals with 20 points which is not bad for a player listed as questionable.
"He had an ankle sprain and it was literally game time when we decided to let him try and play," said Highland coach Shaun Reuter.
It was a good thing he was able to be on the court, especially when the Cardinals needed scoring at the end of regulation.
The Bulldogs led 29-26 at halftime and had built the lead to eight with 12 minutes to play. But with Colton Healy back in the line-up and Max Oleson back in the game after some first half foul trouble, the Cardinals got within one at 43-42 with six minutes left.
Two quick baskets by Oleson, three by Healy and another by Oleson led the rally.
At 3:26 Weston Frost tied the game at 47 with a basket in the lane.
After Parker Hisel gave the Bulldogs the lead back with a jumper from the side, Weston Frost pushed the score to 53-49 with 25 seconds remaining with two scores in the lane and two free throws.
Baskets by Channing Brown and Ty Kerschner tied the game with six seconds left but the Cardinals had a chance at the last shot. Weston Frost took it from three point range but it was in and out as time expired and both teams sitting at 53.
Kerschner was fouled and made both free throws for a 55-53 lead a minute into overtime but the rest was all Highland.
Weston Frost tied it with a drive and Michael Esser followed with a score from underneath to provide the lead for good. He then iced it with two free throws in double bonus and Oleson increased it with two more from the line.
Oleson came up clutch on the defensive end with a critical steal on a Bulldogs inbound pass.
Healy added 13 for the Cards and Oleson finished with 10.
Two freshmen led Ithaca as Brown had 14 and Sammy Clary added 10.
Frost's 20-point performance was his best of his career, as he entered Thursday's game averaging 9.8 points.
Reuter was relieved to pull out the win, as he experienced many highs and lows.
"We didn't seem to have a lot of energy, but we battled back. We had opportunities to put them (Ithaca) away but made too many mistakes. However, we did execute pretty well when they were intentionally fouling," said Reuter.
The Cardinals took care of the ball when it counted, and defensively, they pressured the Bulldogs into low-percentage shots.
"We did force them into uncomfortable shots at the end, so that made a difference," Reuter added.
Highland moved to 6-4, overall, and is 2-2 in the Six Rivers - West and will look forward to getting healthy, as their next game will be in 2022 on Monday, Jan. 3 vs. Argyle at 7:30 p.m.
