Dodgers play complete game in tripping Pointers

Dodgeville's girls basketball team continued its quest for improvement and took a big step with that Saturday.
The Dodgers got some clutch shooting, some key rebounds and sticky defense to hold back Mineral Point 60-53. The Dodgers outscored the Pointers both halves and held on for the non-conference win.
Two three point shots the second half played big roles in the win. Freshman McKenna Reilly drilled one from the right side of the key with 4:45 left that gave the Dodgers a 47-45 lead they never relinquished.
Later, JoJo Heimeral found the range from deep in front of the key to send the lead to 57-48.
Senior Olivia Argall had a huge game and second half for the Dodgers with 15 points enroute to a 24 point outburst to take game honors.
The second half also saw some key points from a pair of freshmen as Reilly netted seven and Marley Busch put in six.
The Dodgers closed out the game with a basket by Busch and one of two free throws from Argall after Heimerl drilled her dagger. Heimerl finished the game with 10 points.
The Pointers had a trio of double figure scorers and were led by Mallory Lindsey's 17 markers. Macy Aschliman added 15 and Blair Watters 11.
Lindsey did all she could the second half to keep the Pointers close with 11 points after intermission. Aschliman also clawed her way to nine points down the stretch. The duo combined for five points in the last 1:30.
Dodgeville coach Josh Busch said the win was big for the Dodgers as they work to get into midseason form.
"This was a really good win for us," said Busch. "Mineral Point is a good team."
The Dodgers were ready to play from the start, Busch felt.
"Early in the game I thought we were communicating and really did a great job of playing team defense," said Busch. "JoJo Heimerl and Maggie White really set the tone for us on that end of the floor. We also did a nice job of limting them to one shot as well."
The game also featured a return to form by Dodgeville's offensive leader senior Olivia Argall.
"Offensivley Olivia Argall looked like her old self. That is two games in a row and it is a huge lift for our team. We knew she would come around and she has in the last two games," Busch said.
"This was a great team win and give us a lot of confidence going into a pretty busy month for us," Busch said. "I am proud of these kids."
