Panthers take care of Wildcats

Iowa-Grant's girls basketball team was not about to let a non-conference loss to Highland last week get into their heads when they returned to SWAL play Friday.
So when they took on Southwestern, a team also in the post season regional grouping, they knew they had to get out to a good start and maintain.
The Panthers did just that and rolled to a 55-45 win. The Panthers were leading by 15 in the closing moments but in a battle of the benches the Wildcats were able to put in a couple late baskets.
The Panthers had three girls reach double figures and eight of the 10 who played got into the scoring column. Logan Hubbard knocked down 17 points to lead the Panthers while Olivia Liddicoat added 13 and freshman Alexis Vavricka put in 12.
It was a highlight of her first varsity season for Vavricka according to coach Dan Liddicoat.
"She was very aggressive tonight," Liddicoat said. "She scored and was strong on the boards. She played a very good game."
Vavricka corralled nine rebounds for the Panthers and had three steals.
Hubbard was the top rebounder for the Panthers with 11 and she came up with three assists along with three steals.
Liddicoat pulled down nine boards, dished out five assists and recorded seven steals.
Taylor Runde was also tough on the boards with six rebounds.
"We shot free throws pretty well with 75% (9 for 12) but we did not get to the line enough," Liddicoat added.
"We did a pretty good job taking care of the basketball," the coach added. "We had a couple rough spots but overall controlled the ball pretty well."
Defensively the Panthers played some zone and man to man and the defensive mix kept the Wildcats in check.
"We pretty much led the whole game," Liddicoat said. "We seemed to always be ahead anywhere from seven to 15 points."
Hannah Lucey led the Wildcats with 16 points and Alisa Ramaker added 13.
