Let's remember summer safety
|I learned after discussing with Mike today, that Thursday June 21 (our publication date) is the official first day of summer. Many camping trips, fishing trips, fairs, backyard barbeques, Fourth of July celebrations and more will commence before we know it.|
With that said, I know each year one may see an piece on summer safety tips that may be common sense to others. To others, it may not be. It's important to keep everyone on the same page and remind people on the "I wouldn't do that if I were you" moments in lives, especially during the summer.
First and foremost, its no secret, summer can be extremely hot. With hot weather in our midst, it's important to keep an eye on one another. Give your neighbor or family member a call and check on them, especially if their house doesn't have air conditioning. Keep hydrated, check on your pets, and don't overdo being outside-whether its baling hay, working on a shedhouse - or what they call "shouse." Also make sunscreen your best friend. If you burn easily, aloe vera gel is also your best friend..trust me.
There's also going to be many water activities happening. Boats, fishing, swimming, you name it, it's happening. If you're participating in any of those activities, you may run into someone that has never swam once in their life. Keep an eye on them, going beyond one's comfort zone in that situation is very dangerous.
And bugs...we all love them (complete sarcasm). Out by where I live, gnats are the worst! I have one perfect solution to that..homemade bug spray. Do 5-10 drops of lemongrass essential oil, same amount for tea tree oil, and dilute with olive oil and water. Bugs hate lemon grass and tea tree oil and this is a good mixture for someone who doesn't want to mess with potentially dangerous chemicals.
These are just some of many other tips that are out there. Communicating with people on summer safety tips they've learned is the cherry on top for a great, and safe, summer. Everyone, enjoy your summer!
