The Dodgeville Chronicle has been in the same building since 1935. The other day we received a letter in the mail from the City of Dodgeville saying that we didn't have a building number posted on our building, and we were not in compliance with some ordinance that was listed. I realize that new people are constantly joining emergency units in the city and if called they may not know that The Dodgeville Chronicle building, that houses the newspaper, exists so we now have numbers saying 106 on our front door - for the first time in 87 years! See the above photo for proof! The clouds in the background show it's on the front door. The photo was taken about noon on Saturday.

It does bother me when I'm searching for a house in Dodgeville or any other place and I don't find a house number on it, because I'm not sure if I'm at the right place. It used to be that if someone told me the name of someone and how to get to their house, I could tell them (without numbers). That isn't the case anymore as there are a lot of people in town I don't know! The making sure numbers are on a house or business is really needed for emergency units as people responding may not know there is even a Dodgeville Chronicle (for example)! .

The Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships that is scheduled for Harris Park in Dodgeville and run mainly by the Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce (and a lot of volunteers) is on track for its Saturday, April 23 date. Entries are coming in for participants and vendors. We still could use a food truck or two, but that is filling up too. Another sponsor or two would be helpful also!

With Dewey having to be in Belleville for an eight year old grandson's basketball game at 9:30 a.m., Bob, Terry, Dave and I decided to go to Argyle (about 30 minutes from Belleville) for breakfast so Dewey could join us. We hadn't been there before. Bob, Terry and I drove together and Dewey and Dave both drove separately. We all arrived within minutes of each other at the Argyle Cafe. It used to be Irma's, but she sold to Donie. Donie is from Yugoslavia and worked for two years with Ozzie at the former Dodgeville Truck Stop at the roundabout. Hasbrowns came with my omelette, something I didn't expect as I probably didn't read the menu that close! We were all full by the time we left, but that didn't stop Bob from suggesting we stop at the Viking Cafe in Blanchardville. When we drove through on the way to Argyle, he noticed a "Cream Puffs" sign on the door. So we just had to stop for some (yummy)!

When we went inside the Viking Cafe, there was a full table of young women. I recognized some of them and realized they were the Pecatonica High School Girls Basketball Team with their coach Linda Hendrickson. I had to talk with them a little. They were eating before going to their game in Barneveld in the afternoon.

The Dodgeville Lions Club had a very successful "FREE" Community Breakfast last year and donated a good amount of money to the Dodger Food Locker, a much needed food chain supplier for students. They are going to hold the 2022 "FREE" Community Breakfast on Sunday, February 20 at the Dodger Bowl, on the west edge of Dodgeville. It will be a dine-in or carry-out type of breakfast. It will run from 8 a.m. to noon. There will also be Vision Screening for preschool youngsters 8 months and up. For everyone's safety, facemasks are required for entry.

Oh and every Groundhog I have "heard from" didn't see its shadow on Groundhog Day. Early spring?!!!
