The Iowa County Sheriff's Department and area police officers hold a "stuff the Squad" fundraiser every year to help school children with school supplies. Last week the event was held at Walmart in Dodgeville with donations taken, but you could also "dunk" an officer in the dunk tank. The above photo shows me showing off my pitching arm and dunking Dodgeville Police Officer David Brennum! Ok, I didn't really throw the ball and was at pretty close range to dunk him! David was once a paper delivery person at the Dodgeville Chronicle. Maybe that's what got him interested in law enforcement - you be the judge!

Saturday afternoon I stopped at Cobblestone Coffee House not only to see Cassidy and Ian, but also to have a "Mint To Be In The Chronicle" specialty coffee. Just as I was about to leave in come some familiar faces. Eric Rohowetz and his wife Leah Ann (Casper) and Jannel (Jones) McCallum stopped in. Eric is a former City of Dodgeville employee who now is a Village of Mount Horeb employee, where he and Leah Ann (teacher) live. Jannel is a teacher in Wausau (I think). She used to work at Las Maria's Mexican Restaurant in downtown Dodgeville with me back in the 90s. I hope to see them during DodgeFest as Jannel will be movng her son Drew to UW-Platteville that weekend. We stayed at Cobblesone past their closing time (2:00 p.m.) so I thank the staff for allowing us to do so as we had some catching up to do!

It won't be long and the Iowa County Fair will be here - over Labor Day weekend - in Mineral Point. But, before that happens, the Annual Cobb Corn Roast happens August 12-15 with the big FREE sweet corn day on Sunday, the same day as the huge parade!

Baseball's summer season is winding down with only a Knights Home Talent game scheduled for tonight (Thursday) against Hollandale at 7:30 p.m. on tap. But, there will be "Fall Ball" beginning in a couple of weeks for high school age kids. There are several area teams set to keep on playing baseball this fall on Sundays here. There will be more on that coming soon!

The next big event happening in Dodgeville will be the Kiwanis Chicken Barbeque. It will be held Thursday, August 19 at Harris Park on the east side of Dodgeville. There will be plenty of chicken with sweet corn and more plus the Dodgeville German Band will be playing throughout. There also will be a lot of socializing going on as people will be catching up from last summer!

Then comes the Dodgeville Lions Club's 2nd Antique Show and Flea Market of the summer on Sunday, August 22. It is held inside Ley Pavilion at Harris Park. It is a big fundraiser for the Lions Club. There will be Lioness pies for sale too!

The Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting DodgeFest on Saturday, August 28 in the parking lot behind the courthouse and the Chronicle buildings. There will plenty of music and lots of food and beverages throughout the day!
