Our Saturday morning breakfast took Terry, Bob and I to 400 Springs at the House on the Rock Resort Golf Course, another place we really enjoy frequenting. This is the first time, since the COVID, that I had the chance to see Dawn there. She is a former Spring Green Chamber of Commerce Director and for whom their former location "Break of Dawn" was named. It was god tot have the chance to catch up some with her! As usual, the food was great and my 1/2 order of buckwheat pancakes was more than enough to fill me!

I'm not sure what "Trick or Treating" will be around the area this Halloween, but the Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce is planning to hold their "Trunk of Treat" again this year beginning and ending in the courthouse parking lot just outside the Dodgeville Chronicle office. This year's event will be on October 24th. There will be a specific one-way route that will start on the south side of the courthouse parking lot near the Plymouth Congregational Church. It will take you down and around nearby streets and end on the north side of the courthouse parking lot. Trunks will be socially distanced along the route. Marks are required. Goodies will be handed out by participants with a gloved hand. Prizes will be awarded for: Best Facemask and for 1st, 2nd and 3rd best trunk. Contact the Chamber at 935-9200 for questions and to enter.

The Dodgeville City Council approved "Trick or Treating" hours for Halloween Saturday, October 31 from 3-6 p.m. I guess masks won't be a problem for the young ghosts and goblins as they all should be wearing them to scare people. Hopefully everything handed out is packaged candy with fruits wrapped or packaged! It wouldn't hurt for both participants and hander outers to wear gloves either!

Last week was the start of the high school fall football season with some area teams opting to play this next spring. There was one area team that had to change opponents at the last minute due to COVD-19 at the visiting school. Also, a volleyball match was cancelled due to the same thing at the host school. We're hoping the season can be played out, but at times things don't look very promising since some schools have gone full virtual and others have been forced into more of a hybrid situation!

Check out the photo from the Dodgeville-Mineral Point football game. It's tough to recognize the players through the black facemasks. It's good thing they wear numbers!

The Dodgeville Lions Club has begun its Birthday/Anniversary Calendar Sale. Since the pandemic forced cancellation of three major fundraisers for the group - Fun Night and two Antique/Flea Markets - this may be the club's only fundraiser for the year. The Lions Club gives a lot of money to local and area needs, including the Food Pantry, Food Locker and Feeding Friends. They have built a lot of shelters at parks and provided funds for dugouts at ball fields plus they give out several scholarships to graduating seniors. They also help Boy Scouts with Eagle Projects and donate much more to other needs. If you haven't been contacted by a Dodgeville Lion to buy a calendar, please do so. There is information on their website.

Sunday's "Fall Ball" was rained out after two games were played the both Centennial Park and the Middle School Field. It was a cool day too, so I guess the word "fall" in the name reads true!
