It's going to be really tough for Major League Baseball to finish its 60-game season on time for playoffs if the COVID-19 positive tests keeps postponing games and even series. There are several teams who will be playing a bunch of doubleheaders and with no days off to rest and rehabilitate their bodies it will be hard on the players - and the season has pretty much just begun. They are (at most) about 25% through their games! They are playing without any fans in the stands and, in some cases, piped in noises. It's hard to believe just how much adrenalin is going through (or not) the players when they make a great catch, hit a home run, drive in the winning run or strike out the last batter to preserve a win without any loud cheers from the fans.
Now the Green Bay Packers have announced they will (at least) play their first two home games without any fan presence. That puts a damper on my cousin Jeanette (from Atlanta) and her plans for her and her husband to attend the Packers Monday night game on October 5th against Atlanta and their chance to be at Lambeau Field for the first time! They were really looking forward to having the Lambeau Field experience!
Saturday morning breakfast took Bob, Terry and I to 400 Springs at the House on the Rock Golf Course just this side of Spring Green. It's one of our favorite places. The tables are very social distanced and the staff is fully masked. Everyone coming in wears masks until they are served - as it should be - and they are very respectful of anyone around them! I really like their Apple Oat French Toast. Bob had their Biscuits and Gravy and Terry their (can't remember for sure) either Buttermilk or Buckwheat Pancakes - he couldn't finish his 1/2 order - neither could Bob, but I finished mine!
The Dodgeville  Chamber of Commerce is holding a Men's Slowpitch Softball Tournament the 28th-30th of August at Harris Park on Dodgeville's northeast side. They have some pretty healthy payouts for the top three placings! They could use more teams. Beth (and company) is looking for volunteers to help out with the fields, concessions, scorekeeping, etc. and umpiring (some). Without being able to hold the Grilled Cheese Championships in April and DodgeFest in August, the chamber needs a fundraiser (or two) badly to help supplement the dues that goes to play expenses and payroll! Hopefully the community (and area) rises to help this event out and spend some time there supporting the concession stand! Contact Beth @ 608-935-9200 for more information or to volunteer. See the above poster.
The Dodgeville Senior Babe Ruth team will play a home doubleheader at Centennial Park Friday night and will be playing more games the following week too. There are also plans to hold a "Fall Ball" league with a variety of ages taking part at Centennial Park starting early September.
