It sure was a strange day last Saturday with rains coming down hard for 15 minutes to a half hour at times and then the sun shining brightly for awhile! Oh, I guess this is Wisconsin and weather can change in minutes! We were supposed to have the first Knights Home Talent baseball game at Centennial Park at 1:00 that day. But it rained here several times before noon so it was cancelled. The sun was out pretty strong from around noon until 2:30 when it rained really hard, so it was probably a good thing it was cancelled. The Knights and Reedsburg were to have made it up Wednesday night - weather permitting and all signs pointed to it being OK. There will also be a Home Talent game here at 4:00 Saturday.

Terry, Bob and I were joined by Jack (Doc) Jenkins for Saturday morning breakfast. We ventured to Hollandale (Stroz Inn), a place where Doc hadn't been. We always like to see Jen too! The bar was pretty filled, but we had the dining room pretty much all to ourselves. We like social distancing!

Thursday evening was when the first of the season baseball games were played at Centennial Park in Dodgeville. The Sr. Babe Ruth team played a doubleheader with Fennimore and split. We had the concession stand open for drinks, chips, candy and cold Ham & Cheese and Turkey & Cheese sandwiches that were wrapped and packaged at the Piggly Wiggly Deli in Dodgeville. Serving cooked on site hot food is not permitted here. The evening went pretty well with the dugouts sprayed down with sanitizer and hand sanitizer available in both dugouts and at the concession stand. There was plenty of washing hands by the concession stand volunteers, especially after handling money!

Good friend and 1964 classmate Bruce Harrison was back here last week for the burial of his mother (Jayne) who died at a home in Florida on New Years Day 2020. Bruce was the starting quarterback in football, guard in basketball and shortstop in baseball on the all-unbeaten in conference teams in 1964 - the basketball team went on to win the state championship. He has been battling cancer for 7 1/2 years and is doing OK. He struggles quite a bit, but I saw him walking around town several different days while he was here. He loves to walk and while he was here he went past his former home on West Merrimac Street every day.

Father's Day was a beautiful day and a good one to be at the ball park. The Dodgeville Babe Ruth team played an 11:00 a.m. baseball game against a team from Illinois (Aurora area) that is coached by Dodgeville 1987 graduate and baseball player Kelly Bennett. There were quite a few classmates, friends and former teachers at the game to talk with Kelly - it was kind of a mini Class of 1987 reunion. Kelly was also a player on the 1986 Southern 8 Championship football team too!

Take a look at Kelly (a lawyer) with his family who were at the game. Left to right are: Flynn (front) with Ryan, Rory, Megan and Kelly.
