With everything going on in the world right now, the one thing I'm sure we can all agree on is that we need to have Hope. April is the National Month of Hope. To bring attention to this, The Dodgeville Chronicle has put together a special section that starts in this week's paper and continuing to the end of April to show the "HOPE" that area people are showing. Be sure to check it out!

A few people told me they didn't know I had any health problems last year (stroke) until they read my update in last week's column. That's good in the fact that they are people I have seen fairly often since my stroke and they didn't see any change in me - even the fact I've lost nearly 20 pounds in that time!

I really miss the Saturday morning breakfasts with the guys (Terry, Bob, Dave and Dewey) at one of our 39 locations! I told someone that I hadn't eaten a breakfast since we last ate one together. That was March 13th! They said, "Don't you cook?" I answered that I don't and besides the breakfasts are more for the "camaraderie" than the meal! But it is great going to so many places and figuring out which ones you really want to go back to often!

In talking about me cooking, it is the clean-up that I really don't like. I have been able to cook since I was a youngster, but just don't care to do it. I've always cooked a mean eggs and bacon, but now that I haven't eaten bacon for over a year that's out too! I'm a deli guy who eats a lot of salads and fruits plus yogurt. Besides I like to support our small business restaurants!

Without events going on it gets tougher to write about things. I miss going to all the area communities for their special events and visiting with the people. It's the "social" that I miss the most! I also miss the ball games and meets and working at the Centennial Park Concession Stand!

When I went home from work Friday afternoon I turned on my TV to catch the weather and latest news. I got through about two minutes of the Weather Channel and then changed channels. I got nothing but snow on my screen at that point. I tried everything to get the picture back, but it was to no avail! So I headed off to the store to buy a new TV. The one I was using is probably 40 years old or more! I got it home and read the directions to get it going, but that also was to no avail! Pretty much anyone who knows me (especially Terry Carroll) knows my mechanical and electrical skills! No TV as of Sunday, but reading Dodgeville - Capturing Hearts" again!

Since my dad passed away I have worn his sport coat on Easter Sunday to church and usually to our family meal. With the stay-at-home order during the COVID-19 pandemic at this time I couldn't break tradition, so I put it on at church time and wore it while I ate my Easter meal!
