A new chapter, but same passion
|Country singer Tracy Lawrence said it best in his iconic song "Time marches on."|
"The only thing that stays the same is everything changes."
As time marches on, change becomes inevitable. The pandemic has made many people rethink their careers.
There will be a change coming on my horizon, as I am also rethinking my career.
Starting in late August I will be taking the big leap, and pursuing my bachelor's degree in Social Work through Western Kentucky University.
I've always been a story teller and have enjoyed getting to know people. Being involved in the local newspaper has opened my eyes to issues that greatly affect our communities.
While I enjoy writing for our local community newspaper, I feel that I am at a time in my life where I want to take things further. A reporter addresses the issues at play, while a social worker takes the next to provide resources to people affected by those issues. Not only do I want to report on the issues, I want to be part of the solution to those issues. I want to be a voice for people needing help in finding solutions to their struggles.
You may be asking, "what about the paper." For now, I will be continuing my job at the paper while I navigate my social work degree online. Being out of school for more than 10 years, I decided to ease my way back into school and I will be taking just two courses this fall.
I'll still be at the paper, it just may look differently.
I will keep the readers informed with my progress. It has not been an easy change to make, but I look forward to the journey ahead. I thank my colleagues, my family, my friends and most importantly the readers of this community.
While it may be a change, my passion for working with the public remains the same. That passion will never wane.
