A call is a call
|As seen on the front page of both the Dodgeville Chronicle and the Democrat Tribune (Mineral Point's publication), Mineral Point School Board made a decision that didn't sit well with some students or parents.|
Mineral Point Football has been doing quite well this season, and they have the mentality to push through any obstacle.
However, the pandemic is something that may be bigger than us. This is a virus that we haven't dealt with before, even though we hear the claims that say that it's just like the flu (tell that to a family member who has lost a loved one to the virus and you will learn otherwise).
I've reported on many councils and school board meetings, and I have to say this: I am fine staying with just that, because I ultimately do not have make a decision.
This was not an easy decision, and no matter what decision was made people were not going to be happy. But I think we all can agree in the end is to ensure that everyone is safe.
Of course there's nothing like the feel of fall sports, enjoying some outdoor time before winter comes. We would love nothing more than to have people be in person, and have interaction.
But with increased case numbers, we have to do it safely.
I had a conversation with my supervisor Pat Reilly today and he told me "I want sports back more than anybody, but we can't have sports if we don't have healthy people to play them."
He is right. We have to take care of ourselves. We have to be mindful of the fact that there are people around us that don't have the greatest immune system.
There is a lot of confusion, and the way things are going, we are being forced to be flexible with the changes that come.
With those changes, there are calls that have to be made.
In the end, a call is a call, and it needs to be respected.
