Bad call for southwest
|In last week's Tuesday Senate session, it was voted not to bring back Brad Pfaff, the Secretary for Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection. |
In other words the Senate told him, "you're fired."
Why you may ask, it has been reported that Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said his members were not comfortable with some of Pfaff's actions since his appointment.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Pfaff earlier this year during a roundtable discussion involving better broadband options for rural southwest Wisconsin. I have crossed paths with other "politicians" and it can be safe to say that he was really concerned and was willing to find answers.
Not only has he provided concerns for providing better internet options, he has been a gamechanger in helping with farmer suicide prevention programs.
That has been a major problem in Wisconsin, and its something that is long overdue in being addressed. I applaud Secretary Pfaff (yes I still consider him that, while our Senate doesn't) in his efforts to provide comfort for our struggling farmers.
And like Governor Tony Evers said, "we have just thrown that away." That I could not agree more with. We have a lot of work to do when it comes to helping provide better programs, and by ridding our state of a great gamechanger, we just made a bad call for southwest Wisconsin agriculture.
