McGraw family and DHS Class of '65 collaborate on pies, DASFI fundraising
The Dodgeville High School graduating class of 1965 has been an avid "pie buyer" at the Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation's annual golf fundraiser since 2005. It came about through the connection with a deceased member of the DHS class of 1964, Bobby McGraw, who was a friend and fellow athlete to them. The McGraw matriarch, Kathryn, began making apple pies for the fundraiser and the 1965 class stepped up to buy them, over the years sometimes for over $1000. They would then serve the pie to classmates and others. It was over 30 years ago that Pat McGraw (pictured) planted an apple tree on the McGraw farm and those apples have been used in the DASFI pies since day one. Since Kathryn passed away, she passed the pie making on to granddaughter Lori McKinlay (seated holding a pie). Shown, left to right at this year's DASFI event are, sitting in front: Dylan McGraw and Aidan McGraw (Tom's sons and Dodgeville students); sitting in chairs: Bob McNeil, Dianne McGraw, Margaret Lawinger, Milissa Hoxtell, Lori Lawinger McKinlay, Tom McGraw, Tory Meyer and Jim McGraw; back row: Bob Rock '64, Dick Stephens '65, Milly McGraw Babcock, Dave Stone '65 (honorary), Joe Meudt '65, Bill Rock '65, Kramer "Butch" Rock '65, Bob Wilson '65, Tom Schleck '65, Mike Gust '65, Ron Botcher '65, Ken Johanning '65, Kyle McGraw and Pat McGraw.
