Telling a packed courtroom he will have an open door policy, Matt Allen assumed the position of Iowa County District Attorney Monday.
Allen, who has been serving as ADA and Corporation Counsel since 2011 was sworn in by Iowa County Judge Margaret Koehler. He succeeds former DA Larry Nelson who died recently of an aneurysm.
"Iowa County has gone through lots of changes this year, some sad and some happy," Judge Koehler said. "One of the happiest is Matt Allen taking over at District Attorney. Matt is qualified and has been an excellent ADA and Corporation Counsel."
"He works hard and is always prepared," the Judge added. "He gets along with everyone in the courthouse."
The judge also called attention to the sad which is the passing of Larry Nelson.
"We were equally proud of Larry," she said and asked for a moment of silence.
Allen then spoke and introduced his family in attendance including his wife, Meggan, his son and daughter, his mother, aunt and uncle and father-in-law.
"Larry Nelson was about strength and integrity and I hope I can show that," Allen said.
"I have dabbled in every type of law there is in Iowa County," he said. "I have learned the people serving Iowa County are truly wonderful and care about everyone."
"I am assuming a huge role and I take it with a great measure of responsibility," Allen added. "I hope to be the Iowa County DA for many years."
"I pledge to have an open door policy as District Attorney and I will be open to the community," Allen said. "I will be happy to work with everyone."
