If it rocks, its on ZROCK!
|For many years, listeners have known Dodge-Point Broadcasting Company as the station that provides classic and modern country music, through it's country station WDMP. Now, there are two radio stations.|
This past summer, the local broadcasting company added "ZROCK" WZRK 96.9 rock radio station. It covers the Dodgeville and Mineral Point areas as well as between Madison, and Dubuque, IA. It also simulcasts with WDMP's 810 AM station. After months of preparation, the station aired on August 10, and the first song played on air was Once Around's single "Ghost."
The radio station is 100 % locally programmed, with no feeds coming from other stations. In other words, all song choices are locally picked at the radio station.
Z ROCK's Program Director Michael Hadzrath said the station has wanted a station to format a fit that has been unserved in this area. ZROCK runs on an "active rock" format with music that combines many hours of heavy metal, and modern rock music varieties.
The station has played hits from new artists such as Bad Wolves, Asking Alexandria, Under Oath and Once Around. It also plays hits from established rock bands such as Disturbed, Halestorm, Avenged Sevenfold, Five Finger Death Punch, and more.
The radio station also taps into classic rock bands such as Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, KISS, AC/DC, and more.
Hadzrath said that there have been radio stations that are hesitant in dipping into classic radio stations, worrying that songs may affect listenership around the area.
For Hadzrath its, "All rock, no rules."
Hadzrath continues, "If a song was good at one time, why throw it away? It meant something to someone at one point in their life."
This philosophy has provided great feedback to listeners in the area. Hadzrath stated that listeners have called in very happy about the station's variety.
"We give a nod to the stuff people grew up on," Hadzrath said. "It doesn't matter if you're 8 or 80, if you like rock thats all that matters."
