Members of the Barneveld School Board approved an Early College Credit Program at their board meeting Wednesday.
There have been 11 student requests to participate in the program, which allows them to earn both college and high school credits. Most of the students taking part are looking at tech schools.
The board learned that the students taking ACT tests have scored over the state average. Their highest scores come in English while their lowest in mathematics.
"We continue to work on our mathematics," said Superintendent Brett Stousland.
He said they have instituted an outreach program with family support, a homework helper for parents.
The board approved the 2018-19 tax levy at $2,721,639 - a mil rate of 11.98.
Stousland said that school numbers were down three students at 438. He reported they have 62 incoming (mostly from the Dodgeville School District - Ridgeway area) with 38 moving out (mostly to Mount Horeb).
He also said the construction project is moving along according to schedule.
The board approved March 23-27 as spring break with a trip to New York coinciding with those dates.
The board also approved the installation of a baseball scoreboard with money coming from the Dugout Club, the school and the baseball team totalling around $19,000.
Board members are looking into the idea of installing a gas tank by Insight at the bus barn. That could save a lot of money on gas tax.
It was also mentioned they should consider purchasing gasoline at Eagle Mart if the tax could be waived.
Stousland reported that the budget comparison from last year shows revenue up and expenditures down. He noted that doesn't include construction costs.
The board had been looking at the revised substitute teacher handbook and decided to keep working on it.
Principal Erin Eslinger told the board that day was the final one for Head Cook Darla Bradley, who was retiring. She said the kids gave her a big, signed card.
She also said they have two people in place to take over her duties.
